Handrail Clarification for the stair and ramp
-can the rail protrude on the 5'-0" clearance?
-can the rail protrude on the door clearance?
It's really simple and it all hinges on the very literal interpretation of "CLEAR".
If code requires a "clear" space or a "clearance", nothing may encroach.
Spaces that must be clear:
Door maneuvering space (see exception below)
AOR
Turning circle at 180 degree turns
Min stair width when AOR is provided
Places where rails may encroach:
Ramp width
Stair width (when no AOR is present)
90 degree turns
Wall-mounted rail at strike side of door
