A Special Halloween at the Western Museum of Flight

A Special Halloween at the Western Museum of Flight

Every year, children look forward to Halloween. They get to dress up in their favorite costumes and participate in all kinds of fun activities. On October 4, 2026, the Western Museum of Flight in Torrance, California, hosted a special Halloween event called “Trick or Treat at the Museum of Flight,” also known as “Pumpkins & Planes.”

This event combined the fun of Halloween with the fascinating world of aviation, giving children the opportunity to enjoy Halloween activities while being surrounded by real airplanes and aviation exhibits.

During the event, children could come dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes and enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities among historic aircraft. The event included games, music, photo opportunities, arts and crafts, and other Halloween-themed activities.

One of the highlights was the Game Zone, where children could participate in games and challenges. There was also a free Photo Booth, allowing families to capture memories of their children's creative Halloween costumes. In addition, children could participate in free Halloween-themed arts and crafts, giving them an opportunity to make their own holiday creations.

Of course, the most unique part of the event was celebrating Halloween alongside real airplanes.

The Western Museum of Flight is a nonprofit museum dedicated to preserving and sharing Southern California's aviation history. Its collection includes historically significant aircraft, aircraft engines, aircraft components, ejection seats, World War II-era aviation equipment, and many aircraft models. The museum also features a Kids Aerospace Discovery Zone, where children can explore aviation, science, and engineering through hands-on activities.

For children, an event like this is about more than simply going door-to-door to collect candy. It is also an opportunity to discover airplanes, aviation, science, and engineering in a fun and exciting environment. The combination of Halloween costumes, games, arts and crafts, and real aircraft can help spark children's curiosity about science and aviation.

That is one of the most valuable things about family programs at museums: they can turn education into a fun experience.

For children who love airplanes, space, science, or hands-on exploration, an event like this can be a wonderful experience. Instead of simply going from house to house asking for candy, children can spend Halloween in a completely different way—surrounded by airplanes and learning something new.

🎃 Halloween can be fun, and ✈️ museums can be fun too.

Perhaps that is what makes Pumpkins & Planes so special: children can learn about aviation history while having fun, discover science through hands-on activities, and perhaps even plant a small seed of curiosity about exploring the skies someday.

Location: Western Museum of Flight
Address: 3315 Airport Drive, Torrance, CA 90505
Event Date and Time: October 4, 2026, 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

If you missed this year's event, it is still worth keeping an eye on the Western Museum of Flight's future family programs. For families in the South Bay area, the museum is a wonderful place to take children to learn about airplanes and the history of aviation.
